Video Title

I Let Taxi Drivers Choose Everything I Eat for a Day

Category

Cooking & Food

Hook

Taxi drivers spend all day driving around the city, so they should know where the good food is. Today I’m letting them choose everything I eat. No Google, no reviews — I have to go wherever they send me.

High Level Video Summary

I’ll spend the whole day eating only at places recommended by taxi drivers. I’ll ask the first driver where they would personally go for breakfast, eat there, then get another taxi and ask that driver where I should go next. The goal is to see whether taxi drivers actually know the best local food in the city.

Detailed Video Script

I’ll start in the morning with no restaurants planned.

I’ll get a taxi and ask the driver where they personally go when they want a good breakfast.

Whatever they recommend, I have to try.

After that I’ll get another taxi and do the same for lunch, then a snack and dinner.

I won’t use Google or check reviews beforehand.

At the end I’ll rank all the recommendations and decide which driver gave me the best meal.

Target Audience

People who enjoy Chinese food, travel, local experiences and food challenges.

Why will this video succeed?

Taxi drivers probably know a lot of local places that tourists would never find online. There’s also an element of surprise because I don’t know where I’m going or what I’m eating until I ask each driver. The conversations with the drivers should make it feel more personal than a normal food tour.

Sounds very interesting! But how do you intend to ask the taxi drivers? Will they allow you to film them? Are you going to be going to taxi ranks or actually riding the taxi? Might be a hit series if it comes off like James Cordens Carpool Karaoke

I plan to ask them but not necessarily film them unless they agree. Do you suggest otherwise?

What happen if they take you somewhere far? Will you put a constraint on distance?

I think the strongest part is asking where *they personally eat* rather than asking for the “best” place, because that should give you much more interesting answers. One thing I’d add is keeping the taxi fares on screen too. If a driver sends you 40 minutes across the city for a £3 bowl of noodles, that becomes part of the story and could make some recommendations hilariously bad value even if the food is great.

I’d maybe add one rule that you have to order what the driver recommends too, not just go to the restaurant. Otherwise you could end up at a great local place but accidentally choose the most boring thing on the menu. That would make the drivers feel like they’re genuinely controlling the whole day, and could lead to some foods you’d never have picked yourself.

"Where would you spend your own money?" should get a more personal answer than asking for the best restaurant. I would mention that the recommendations are unverified and show each receipt, since a driver might naturally send you to a friend's place. If someone does not want to be filmed, recap the recommendation after the ride and leave out their face and voice. The challenge still works without making the driver's participation a condition of the meal.
